Often when something traumatic or frightening happens, people remember very specific details that can replay or stick in their minds. Facial artists use that and a series of prompting questions to get the best picture

I remember one time the news put up the sketches of two wanted men. I have no bloody idea if two different people drew them, but one looked like a vaguely cartoonish naval officer fresh off the boat from 1865, and the other guy looked like a vaguely humanoid piece of ham.

They don't. They may remember in vivid detail due to the emotional involvement the other guest mentioned. Those details are still prone to be wrong. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyewitness_memory
