It looks like, in general, the odds of surviving WWII were pretty good. 16 million US citizens served in some capacity during WWII, 400,000 died and 672,000 were wounded. I would’ve thought the death count would be much higher but it appears that ‘most’ of the men in that photo had a decent chance of making it back alive - assuming they weren’t in some high stakes battle.
