In some remote parts of Scandinavia the colour orange is still known as "brandgul", literally "fire-yellow".

Is it because that's when English started calling it orange and other languages had a different word? jk I know this one, it used to be described as reddish-yellow.

I learnt that the colour orange has only been named as such for the past few hundred years.
