Do not go to college until you know what career you want afterwards. Then go to the correct college and get the correct degree for that field.
Just showing up and picking a major that sounds interesting is no longer a good investment.
what if the after is immaterial and you just want to learn something whilst paying out of pocket? \O_p/ always exceptions, except when there is no exception \P_o?/
Well- knowing is always an investment, but depending it can be a poor investment. A ships captain that knows how to properly cultivate a rare species of tundra grass MAY use that someday- but if they intend to keep on their career path it’s likely that another skill would have been more useful. The truth though is- no one knows. You can want to do something your whole life and when you get there discover it isn’t for you- or you an be happy in a field and life changes and suddenly you aren’t. Heck, I know tons of people who studied and practiced and were great in a trade they enjoyed. Then through cross disciplines like drones and other technology they found themselves in tech, then transferred to totally new fields they likely would have never gotten in to had they chosen that to study. It’s a gamble. Life always is. The chances we take and how those turn out define us to the world. Some choices are more likely to help us achieve a goal than others.
