"Spelt" and "spelled" are two different words, though. Spelt is an ancient grain referenced in the bible, while spelled is the past form of spell...

Spelt is also the past tense form of spell. Spelt(n) is defined as a grain. Spelt(v) and Spelled(v) are the same word. Spelled doesn't have a noun form so by that criteria Spelt(n) is a different word.

when i read spelled and spelt too much they kind of lose their meaning, there's just an awkward s in front of pelled and pelt
