"I believe that vaccines are the devil that gives our kids autism"
totally a good idea to let them believe what they want, not gonna hurt anyone ever totally
Religion isn’t killing people (except in cases of extremism but that’s not what this post is about). Vaccines and religion aren’t comparible. And what do you really stand to gain from arguing with someone on facebook about anything. More than likely you will never change their mind.
Anti-vaxers are a belief system. Doesn't have to be religious to be their beliefs.
The point of arguing with someone on these kinda things is not primarily to change their minds. It's to potentially keep someone else from falling into that pit of utter stupidity.
Yeah as far as I know anti-vaxxers don't necessarily tie their beliefs to religion. Homophobes, on the other hand...
Basically, imo any belief system including ideologies and political views can become toxic and dangerous, especially when the "I believe in something bigger than myself (be it a god, a cause, the future)" element kicks in. And there are people in pretty much any religion who just use it to be hateful assholes. That doesn't mean that religion is bad in itself, that said though I also think that when we look at abrahamic religions, their texts have more than enough material these hateful assholes can use, and we shouldn't just dismiss that.
well no, if you watch his stuff he takes every scientific discovery that supposedly disproves the bible and connects the it to the bible in a way that just makes the bible look more factual.
he is kind of a jerk though im not gonna lie.
he's a jerk....but he makes sense.
hows he a con man?
the only thing of his my parents ever paid for was a trip to dinosaur adventure land and we got everything that was advertised.
plus, have you ever even heard any of his lectures? because I have a feeling that you haven't.
I could be wrong though.
Actually, out of curiosity I watched his "Best Arguments for evolution" video, and first off it could barely be called a lecture, he's just speaking in front of a monitor, unhinged stream of consciousness style (and in fact when I searched for lectures by him specifically, I only found very few very old videos so it seems that he doesn't really do lectures a lot, or at least not in video form). He didn't have a single cohesive argument in there. He says that evolution isn't real but "Biblical kind" totally is, that's why a lion and tiger can produce a liger but a lion can't bang a wolf and produce a catdog. He admits he can't explain what a Biblical kind even is but mocks scientists for explaining what evolution is. He keeps insulting Charles Darwin but it seems he never really read the Origins of Species because his knowledge of Darwin's theory is incredibly shallow, a middle schooler could probably debunk it.
He shows images of two species of squirrels who got differentiated because they lived on different sides of a canyon and then doesn't even conclude what that means, he just says "guess that means they're related to rabbits and bananas, har har!" how is that an argument, let alone a coherent one? And he just keeps going like that, either mocking scientists or saying "all fish are from the biblical kind of fish" or "cauliflower and cabbage are from the same biblical kind of plant". He keeps using a concept he himself admitted he can't define. If I ever tried that stuff in a college essay, I'd fail the subject on the spot. If you wanna be taken seriously you can't work with vague terms like that, let alone try to use them as proof of something while at the same time admitting you don't even know what they mean. This guy is so full of shit I almost can't believe my ears when listening to him. And btw con man doesn't always have to be tied to money. Maybe he's in it for the ego boost.
That's me. I'm atheist, but I don't care if other people have a religion. Just don't try to convert me or insult me due to my lack of beliefs and we'll get along just fine
