The horn is literally made of the same substance as our hair and fingernails. Humans have nearly eliminated an entire species because they believe chewing on the giant fingernail that grows out of the top of their nostrils will give them a better boner.
I don't know.... killing a rhino to put bread on your familys table, I kind of get that. Eating a few milligrams of ground rhino horn to get a boner, not a nice thing to do, but hey, I kind of get that too. Killing a nearly extinct species to put up a friggin trophy on the wall is way, way worse in my book, given the socialization such a "game hunter" has had.
A decent amount of places you can go to take "wildlife photographs" are actually raising baby animals they've stolen from their parents. They then get sold off to game reserves, where they are drugged and then released into an enclosed area they can't escape, all so sick idiots after an ego trip can "hunt" them.
'
Ofc, others just keep the animals and do things like burn them and rip their teeth and pierce their noses out so tourists can get a nice family photo with a predator.
Additionally, poachers often do not show mercy. I've seen videos of them cutting the shells off of tortoises while the tortoise is alive, and then leaving it to die. They do the same to sharks, cutting off their fins and leaving them to down. They will skin tigers alive, break the arms of baby primates and sell them as pets, rip the fangs out of snakes while the snake is still alive and unsedated.. The list goes on.
'
I understand people wanting to feed their families. But the level of cruelty so often involved is inexcusable.
It's a very depressing side of the world and humanity. Sadly, as I said, tourists are often a large part of the problem. Most of the animals being tortured to death are being used for entertainment or having pieces of themselves sold as trinkets or souvenirs. And this doesn't even touch on what happens in first world countries, with dog fighting rings and animal testing facilities. The amount of pain inflicted does not equal out with what is achieved at the end. I don't agree with 80% of what PETA does, and I'm not condoning it, but sometimes hearing and seeing the results of what is going on I can't entirely blame them for wanting to blow someone up
