I've learned a bunch of random ass words and a few phrases, none of which I could ever use to have a conversation (Konnichiwa, ohaiyo-gozaimasu, itadakimasu, daijobu, Nani, kawaii, kowaii, nii-san, onee-chan, sumimasen, hai, arigatou, haori, yukata, obi, etc, etc apologies if spelling is wrong). But hey, better than nothing at all.
Not entirely the same, but I know that the English-dubbed versions often don't do entirely correct translations either due to lip-flap timing, or censorship. Can make for an entirely different take on a scene...

Had this example in Black Butler
'
Spoken dialogue:
Character: "if you refuse to accept me in the lunar form of a woman...
_changes genders_
" Then I will assume a man's form, and be the sun. Do you see my light? It will penetrate you. It will pierce even the darkest depths of your heart."
'
Subtitled dialogue:
Character 1: *"if you won't embrace me as a woman...*
_changes genders_
*"I will stay in this man's form, as the sun... and sink my shaft (sword) into you all the way to the hilt."*
Doko ni nan desuka?
It means “where is what?” and can be substituted for “where is ____”
