My first thought was "that's probably not clean money, and I don't want to have someone like a dealer/cheap hitman/... on my ass". We're like two sides of the same coin here kittycat!
if you don't hand it in, it's considered theft by finding, in the US, if no one claims it, it's considered drug money. However, in Australia, if you find and hand in money, the rightful owner has to state exactly how much, what bag and the reason for the money. in 30 days, if unclaimed, it's given to the finder, tax-free. Only once i have heard of, when a bag of about $40k was found, the owner, was a employee (chinese), who was buying a car on behalf of his boss, left the money by accident, got a loan and bought the car.
howver,, during renovations of a Train station years ago, workers found a bag containing $400,000, a week later, another station, $600,000, both went unclaimed and handed back to the finders
