When using bible verses to dispute someones use of bible verses its best to use the same section. She is using Leviticus so if she eats pork in any way one might use Leviticus 11:7 which reads
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you."
or perhaps if she eats shrimp or lobster maybe crab one might use Leviticus 11:12 which reads
"Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you."
or if she has tattoos or other various body modifications one could use Leviticus 19:28 which reads
"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."
or if she eats anything with added fats in it one might quote Leviticus 3:17 which reads
"It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood."
Hell if she's ever had a pet dog or cat die then read her both
Leviticus 5:2 which reads "Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty."
and Leviticus 11:27 which reads
"And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even."
The list goes on and on.
‘You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’ (Matthew 5:43-44). Well, I guess this means I have to love you @bethorien. *cringe*
Uh, Leviticus isn't canon, I spoke to the author and he confirmed that it wasn't even him who added that, his publishers just wanted it to reach the homophobic demographic.
literally only 2 line in Leviticus that mention it. A more accurate bad joke would be to say "his publishers just wanted it to reach the "ew icky" demographic" as its basically just the "this is banned" section
This script is from hundreds of years ago, time has evolved a lot since then, mindlessly believing everything the Bible says means you are ignorant and unwilling to learn new things
The laws of the old testament are more or less nullified by the new testament. Once Jesus came on the scene he rewrite a lot of the laws, or at least ammended them, what with his big "Let he who is without sin caste the first stone." "Judge not, least you be judged." And my personal fave, "I give a new commandments to be held above all others, Love one another."
if a person is in a group that uses the new testament at all, for them to be using the old testament as material to judge others by is literally saying that jesus making his sacrifice meant nothing.
Exactly. They are the kind of people who are more concerned with judging others than with the actual religion they supposedly follow. Unfortunately there's way too many of those people.
So many of these lines are either taken out of context or key words can have multiple translations, and thus change the meaning of a passage entirely. Not allowing skepticism, debate, or even denial of such ancient texts, and taking their words extremely literally inevitable leads to prejudice and lack of reasoning.
