I recently found out my parents used to keep a bin in their room full of dollar store toys and stuffed animals for dire situations involving me and my autistic 5 year old self.
Why does the fact that a bunch of toys that my parents had for me just in case make me sad?
Depends do you think they did it to distract you or do you think they did it to reward you?
My grandmother used to eat at Burger joints with my grandpa and they both would always order kids meals. For one the food was just the right amount for them both ate like birds. And two it came with a toy. They would keep a toy chest filled of these toys so when the grandkids came over we had something to do.
I dont think it was either. I think one example was when I was really little and my sister got a stuffed animal from the tooth fairy (bc they missed her on the first night), so the next time I lost a tooth I told my parents, RIGHT BEFORE BED, that i wanted the tooth fairy to bring me a toy as well to make it fair and square. They told me she might not be able to, and my whimsical ass responded "but shes the tooth fairy, she can do anything! :D" so from what I know they reached into said box and got me a squirrel beanie baby (which I might still have, idk).
So yeah, I think it was for situations like those
So it was more for when they couldn't afford a gift so they kept extras in case of out of the blue situations. Because you can't plan when a tooth is going to come out.
It sounds more like to make you happy.
I know. Maybe it's the fact that I'm pretty sure they dont have the box anymore and there are probably dozens of plushies I never got to play with or even see. Idk, I get emotional over my old toys bc they were one of the only things that made me happy as a kid (I never got rid of my old toy box until 9th grade), so hearing about some I never got to see and have probably been thrown away just kinda crushes me
