The reason Canada produces so many snipers is because if we let the enemy get too close to us we are obligated to apologize after shooting them, and that gives away our position
The sniper made the shot from close to 3600 feet (if you're rounding up by a hundred or so), which is double the "effective firing range" the rifle is certified to be used for
I don't like how damn rounded that number is. I'd rather see 3,449.78 meters or something. >_>
Anyway, that's a hell of a shot. I wonder what the actual distance traveled was for the bullet. I assume this is measuring ground distance.
Also, at it's peak, before it came down, it had to hit under 300m/s... which... I mean, yeah roughly 1,000 ft/s is still fast, it's enough to throw off a shot from that range. That's fucking insane.
Look at the arc. It didn't go in a straight line... dur, that's what I'm saying. At some point, gravity slowed it down to below 300 m/s.... It's average speed was 345 m/s (354 m/s according to your article), but it's exit velocity was MUCH higher, 805 m/s are the specs given.
I know all the other stuff.. All I'm saying is, adjusting for that arc, knowing it's going to drop it's speed and then re-accelerate slightly on the way down... that's some serious physics on the fly and one insane ass shot. That's like... if you've ever seen the dude perfect video where they throw a basketball off a dam to demonstrate the Coriolis effect, it's like swishing the shot in an actual hoop 5-6 skips away.... instead of just showing what the Coriolis effect does.

Its manufacturer says its effective firing range is 1,800 metres, around half the distance the Canadian sniper managed.
