To be fair, they're from two different governments. USA's government is much more complex than New Zealand's. Jacinda has done incredible things in the wake of the attack, but to discount Trump entirely is heavily biased. In the interest of transparency, I am a New Zealand citizen
Blaming the actions of a person on another person on another continent half way around the world is asinine to say the least, regardless of what manifesto existed. By that logic (using that term lightly) obama is to blame for the black guy that punched me at work Wednesday morning because I wouldn't sell him alcohol outside legal hours.
Yes there is only one leader. The other is a spineless coward, who is ready to descend their country into tyranny, censoring and imprisoning anyone who dares to want to know more. If your democracy and liberties fall after a single attack, your country and those who lead it, it's worth nothing.
And speaking of those gun reforms, who would've fucking guessed it. Of course, it's much harder to censor and imprison your own people when they can defend themselves. God fucking bless America, and I wasn't even born in an English speaking country,

Donald Trump is an absolute nightmare. I want to say “I can’t believe the people voted for him”, but I actually can. America is like a never-ending circus. The oligarchy is falling apart, and no one knows how to deal with it.
That backwards attitude is why we voted for him.
To change the status quo, spit in the wannabe oligarch's face, and have the concerns of middle America addressed by a leader who puts his country's interests first, not anyone else's.

I personally don’t see him putting his country first. Perhaps with immigration (closing off borders), but I’m not sure it’s for the right reasons. I’ll be surprised if this works out in the overall favor of the people.
Nobody is closing borders. We just want some more control over who gets in.
And every move that preserves our strength, constitution, and national interests while hurting our enemies and forcing rivals to reckon us is a move in America's favor.

Interesting way of viewing it. Would you say you’re conservative in your views? I don’t care one way or the other personally, but it would help me understand where you are coming from.
I used to think so. But they get too involved in people's personal lives for my liking.
I still land closer to modern conservatives than modern liberals, though.

Ah, I see. So, you hold conservative values, but do not affiliate solely with the conservative party. That gives me a good idea of your political spectrum, and why you side with Trump. I find this fascinating, considering I don’t live in America and only get a third-party glimpse of the situation.
I've been doing quite a deal of research on this, and it's easiest to boil things down like this: Trump is offering similar policy positions to what 90's Democrats would offer. He doesn't oppose gay rights, supports free speech, and wants more border control, all the things that Democrats used to campaign on. Which is why many more people affiliate with him, especially since the Democrats are torn between two factions that nobody likes. The first being the corporate scumbags, like the Clintons, and the second being the radical "regressive left" that are advocating for open borders, race-based policy (yes, I'm not joking), censorship of speech and denial of science. Ocazio-Cortez and her "Green New Deal" are the clearest examples of that.
Trump is getting such extensive amounts of support because every option around him is worse. And the Democrats are too busy tearing each other to pieces.
Does anyone else know that the only thing the shooter liked about President Trump is that he's a white nationalist? He went on to say in his manifesto that he despises all of President Trumps policies.
Not even that, just that Trump was a step in the right direction in his opinion. He stated clearly that he despises all conservatives, because in his opinion they didn't conserve shit. And I can kinda understand where he's coming from, seeing how much leftie insanity is coming from USA.
