Basically, GPAs are Grade Point Average, normally measured in high school. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.
The SAT score is based on a difficult end-of-term test that scores you out of 1600 points. (I'm honestly not 100% certain myself how they make the numbers, but I assume that it's an average of how many questions they get right).
Both of these normally show colleges/universities how educated you are and how likely you are of getting in. (this person for example, probably won't be able to get into clown college without bribi- er, paying a large amount of cash)
The SAT is a test that most colleges ask you to take to show your aptitude as they don't know how hard your courses in high school are. It's designed to have the average score around 1000, and for Ivy Leagues a 1500 or more is more or less required to get in.

U.S. Board of Education Member 1: “Should we just use perentages?”
U.S. Board Member 2: “Nah, let’s use letters to represent those numbers that in no way correlates to A=1”
U.S. Board Member 1: Brilliant!
