There's actually been numerous studies done that have found bees are actually very intelligent creatures, and we don't even fully understand how their "collective" intelligence works, or the depths of it's capabilities. It's fairly impossible to say they have no concept of mortality considering we've barely even scratched the surface of just how complex their little brains are.
