Name one invertebrate animal who's well-being you genuinely care about. And I dont mean like, save the bees, I think most normal people care about the lives of animals in general, but I mean in like a pet/animals-that-end-up-in-shelters type thing
My Uncle Harr had a dog he got from a neighbor. The dog hopped the fence one day to my Uncle's house. The dog than killed 4 of his chickens and almost a goat. My Uncle went out to stop the dog and it bit him hard on the hand. With a blood soaked towel wrapped around his hand he pinned the dog in an old dog crate he had and went to the neighbors. He told them what happen and they said they put the dog down and pay for medical bills and killed animals. He said pay for my stitches and give me the dog that is it. So they did. He gutted and cooked the dead chickens and slowly by using the cooked meat got. The dogs trust. He than taught him to hunt. That dog was loyal to my uncle till the dogs last breath.

Well it happened in a itty bitty town in Texas so yeah definitely back-country. Plus my Uncle Harr is a big old fat farmer type guy lol looks like a cross between a farmer and a trucker with a big pot belly like santa lol.
He loves all animals he once had a baby calf that he named Cupid because it was born on Valentine's day and the mama died giving birth so he took care of the calf. The calf slept in his room on his bed like a dog. Lol

Honestly, this is really important and should be adopted at least in all Europe. The concept of "rescuing" animals and coldly killing a huge portion of them is sick.
As a German, I'm really confused that it is uncommon in other countries, like, do you just kill animals because nobody wants them anymore? Are there people whose jobs are killing unwanted animals? Please explain I don't understand
Sadly, you guessed right. When people don't adopt an animal from a shelter for "a while", to make room and get rid of an animal no one wants, someone kills it. Which is absolutely barbaric and just awful to think of.
