Umm, you realize people tend to run away from or attack the things they're afraid of, yes? Fight or Flight? Americans = lots of guns. Scary thing = shoot first, shoot second, and maybe shoot again if it's still there. And that's not even taking into account some of the weird subcultures we have where extreme machoism or bravery/courage has to be proven and how better to prove it by taking out whatever scares everyone else.
