That’s a common misconception- not they they aren’t behind. They are. That’s a feature not a drawback to their primary audience. The government uses ANCIENT technology for many things because well- not a lot of people around can hack a non network tape drive remotely, and they know it works and have 50+ years of data on what goes wrong and how to fix it. We call this “bleeding edge..” the newest innovations will always be the riskiest and most unstable. In critical applications where it just needs to work, advanced features are left out for stability. Apples pitch has always been a simple and stable machine with few frills that does what it was made to do. People like me don’t care about free apps and sd slots or folding screens. We want to make calls and maybe use the internet and have it work every time and be secure. Apple phones lose the “pissing contest” of specs and features.
As a date they are boring, predictable, stable, and come in a pretty wrapper and lean towards expensive tastes. They aren’t the $5 date who will do anything you want but sometimes burns your photo albums or steals your credit card. They won’t come home and show you the “new trick” they picked up or decide to take you sky diving by surprise. They are vanilla and reliable.
The only reason I have an iPhone is due to my sister selling it to me for a ridiculously low price. Before, I didn’t even have a smartphone. I still don’t want one, most of all an Apple product. I’m telling you...Apple is shit to use, if you haven’t used one prior.
It’s just preference and familiarity. There’s lots of things I like on OSX and apple IOS. My first computers were all no GUI. Ran in Basic or GEOS. Later I got DOS and then GUI’s. Linux flavors, windows versions- there’s always differences and things to like and not like about each. Some things on IOS I hate- especially the newer versions and phones- but same is true with android. We use android devices for certain parts of our corporate operations and they are far from perfect in UI. To each their own. When I first got an iPhone it was free and I hated it. Once I learned to use it and got used to it I stuck with it because I don’t care to become proficient with another mobile OS. So more than anything OS proficiency and comfort for us as individuals usually makes the choice of what we like. They all suck though.
“They all suck though” is definitely the message to take away from this conversation. I would /rather/ have Android, because I’m already familiar with Studio, but alas, my iPhone just won’t quit on me.
Lol. Yeah. One of their endearing qualities. My 2G still works to this day although I don’t use it. But I’ve amassed a collection of old ones that make great gadgets and remotes for the house and car. Ultimately it’s all shit sandwiches and we just get to choose the sauce that goes on it, so it’s really wether you like ranch or blue cheese or BBQ turds.
Let's not forget that Apple started the smart phone revolution. They must be given credit for that. However, since the passing of Steve Jobs, who pushed the company to innovate, they have done absolute shit.
Samsung, LG, and Motorola now lead the way. Every single innovation that has been on an iPhone recently has been on some Android based phone for at least 3 or 4 years. YEARS! They are willing to take the risks and push for new technology and new innovations. Apple lags behind and only stays ahead in sales because the apple sheepeople buy a new phone every year. They just copy everything that Android based phone have done for years and call it "new, innovative, and exciting".
I've seen this. Working retail is hell, but when you hear people say "apple came out with this amazing new feature" and your phone, which is almost 2 years old at this point, has everything that they just said, it's rather pathetic. The sheepeople are really gullible and apple knows it and takes advantage
There are a few points here I want to address. The “smart phone” already existed, the innovation by Apple wasn’t in the concept or the product but in marketing and their ability to integrate an ecosystem that created actual reasons for “average” people to have use for a smart phone. Their brand, marketing, and ecosystem continue to be their biggest draw as you point out- they tend to lag on specs and features to less expensive competitors. However- on that subject...
... “willing to take the risks...” is key here. It’s not just Apple but it’s primary customers who aren’t willing to take the risks. They want a stable care free plug and play polished package. Tested and tried and true technology, not all the newest features with any risks that come with. Generally speaking I don’t want a dentist or surgeon people describe as “they take risks these guys won’t!” I don’t want a car designed by engineers who like to take risks either. Everyone has a tolerance for risk and hassles. Not everyone needs or wants the latest features or the coolest gadgets at all- let alone before they’re established fully.
