Well- that’s not exactly the truth- it’s the story everyone wants to tell. The “monitor” in question is for professional use. It’s a special Monitor called a “reference monitor” that costs $10k-80k or more for a single monitor. The price tag of apples monitor at $5k is even cheaper than a “budget” reference monitor. Most pros already have a set up for an existing monitor they are replacing. So Apple basically took a $6,000 monitor and said “if you don’t need the stand (are a pro) well knock $1,000 off the price.”

You and pretty much everyone reading this including me aren’t the customers meant for this display. It’s a high end pro set up that is purchased by businesses and not even most dedicated “home artists” buy set ups like this. So while the $1,000 stand seems to make people balk- you also have to realize that products for enterprise customers tend to have different price points than those made for consumers- and you don’t NEED the Apple stand- they sell it if you want it. They could have charged $6 easy for the monitor and thrown the stand in “free.” Many are calling this a blunder on their part for not doing exactly that- but I suspect there is more to it than we are aware of at the moment, and as mentioned there’s much more to it than most people have mentioned so far.
