I’ve never seen this movie but of the three, one looks like he knows he’s going to lose, one thinks he has a chance, and one we all know is going to win.

And this scene is 100% what the title says it is. A masterclass in slow-burn tension.

Leone is a master at showing, not telling. You can gather from just a few looped frames the gist of what is happening in that scene. The showdown is very intense, and takes a lot of it's inspiration from samurai films and Soviet montage editing.
