And also because... we’ve covered this before but one more time.... the quest for representation of minorities is just that. Only a few years ago 89% and 94% of film and televisions leads were “white.” The larger discussion isn’t about what race is ok to play what characters- in some cases it’s simply a matter of casting based on an established look or historical reasons. It’s about changing those numbers above so that the percentage of people of color (30-40%) in the IS population is closer to the percentage of people in the lead on screen than... 6%. It’s about giving everyone a chance and not just white people.

It should be self explanatory why, if the goal is to reduce the percentage of white leads and increase the percentage of leads of color, or would not make any sense to take characters written for or already played by people of color and turn them white (the number of white people goes up more and the POC goes down more that way) but it would make sense to case more actors of color in roles that were possibly written originally or cast as white (the numbers go closer to reality that way.) So that’s... that’s how math works see. And yeah- they could make a new character and not change James Bond. But if they are already going to make a Bond movie vs making a bond movie AND trying to invent and launch a new successful franchise... recasting an existing character seems not only easier but less expensive and studios like money.

My only problem is why they gotta make all the gingers black. Annie, Starfire, Mary-Jane, Ariel, the list goes on. Why yall hate the ginge? Make some blondes and brunettes black gosh darnit, let the red heads be in movies.

@xdmaniac I agree lol! For some reason i would not care if nearly any other princess they changed like that ( not including the exceptions for obvious reasons mulan, jasmine, Pocahontas, snow white as is in the name lol). I know anyone should be allowed to fill any role if they are a good actor and im sure once we actually see the product all the BUT THEY CHANGED IT in that way will die down. As long as they dont fuck up the story, magic, and wonder idgaf but I don't support the remakes in the first place as they just dont carry the same joy as the O.G.s. If they want to call them re-imaginings and separate them, then I would love spin offs. just dont tell me we are having pizza and swap it with fruit pizza even if the fruit turns out good it is not pizza. Animated version will always be the icons.

I mean Hawaii = Atlantis. Mamoa is king of Hawaii, therefore he is Aquaman. Simple math

I've seen a video of Jason Momoa touching an underage girl's chest so now I want him to perish

How will disney do meet the characters at the parks now? If the animated doesn't look like the films thoughts on that work around 2 Ariels?

If the current trend is any indication they’ll just stick to the classic versions most likely. When they remade Cinderella, beauty and the beast, etc. as live action they didn’t swap out the iconography and character casts/costumes at the park. They didn’t switch mowgli after the live action either. For the most part- save for offering merchandising- Disney tends to stick to the more “classic” versions of their characters. This could change at some point, but it’s unlikely it would until and unless the live action versions eclipsed their predecessors in popular consciousness. Disney has to be very careful making changes at the parks because many fans return again and again because of the familiar memories of their pasts there. So as long as most people in their primary paying customer base are more fond of the original versions they will likely continue to use those.
