Technically speaking POG means "person other than grunt", which means anybody who isn't infantry or special ops, but sometimes we use it to describe something that's either stereotypically stupid, extraordinarily stupid, trying too hard to look cool, or we use it as an insult when r***** or f** might offend somebody.

You don’t know if he served or not. there are a lot people who show support and and find interest in the military even if they were never in it. Not really any different than a man cave with your favorite baseball team. “Those who can’t join the majors decorate their basement...or something like that”.

To the subject though- yeah- people support baseball teams. But if you’re on a baseball team other players might still rib you for being the guy who plasters your house and car with baseball crap and wears team gear everywhere and tells everyone “yeah- did you know I’m the second string relief backstop for the Cleveland spiders..” Lots of people graduate from Yale. But that one guy who graduated 15 years ago and still wears a class ring and a jacket and has an alumni plate frame and finds a way in any conversation to mention they went to Yale... Now if they never actually went to Yale and just really like it or grew up near it.... I mean... simple math.
