It’s always very sweet to see a dog getting a good home- especially when disabled. Just remember to be honest. Adopting a dog with special needs or advanced age might seem like a good deed- you might feel good about yourself or like shelter dogs- people may do it simply because that’s a “trend” to show how “good” or “woke” you are- but special needs dogs can be an even greater commitment than the already large commitment of a healthy dog.

They may require constant upkeep and special accommodations or modifications to your home and or life style and schedule. Care and medication for them and any complications they get from their condition can be very costly. They’re good dogs who have lots of love to give- but do yourself and them a favor and be well informed and realistic as to wether you are the right person to give that to them. There’s no shame in admitting you aren’t.

You might look at it this way: if you see someone in need of open heart surgery and they don’t have the money to pay a doctor- you aren’t likely to help and more likely to make their life worse by trying to do the operation yourself unless you know you have the knowledge, skills, and resources to actually see it through. Don’t put an animal through not getting proper care because you want to try and do the right thing. The right thing is picking an animal you can care for well.
