Greyworm was really looking forward to conquering Westeros, driving the Saracens from the holy land.
I was looking forward to cheering him on. The final season should have been Westeros,Jon+Direwolf, Wildlings, Iron Islanders, The faceless Men vs Mad queen Dany; and her army of dickless, Dothraki, Drogon
Dumbass king bran would be in the corner watching Game of thrones live(where he belongs)
why?? wasn't there enough of blood in the series?? too little eyes gouged out for your taste??? not enough guts?? were you depraved of scenes with women eating raw flesh??
I dunnoh. For starters- GW is a trained fighter since birth vs. JS who has had some scraps but isn’t the worlds greatest warrior. I feel GW has a definitive advantage in 1 on 1 cage match combat and while I don’t think it’s a sure win or an easy one- that’s an unbalanced fight. But if JS gets out by trial by combat- we have the same problem as we did if they make him King- the unsullied are going to be pissed that Westeros made the queen slayer king and they’ll likely stay for revenge or come back later. Plus now he killed their queen and greatest general. If John Loses he dies- and his friends and family were literally looking for a way to keep him alive. Plus that also causes the whole possible cycle of war problem when a foreign army of conquerers seen as mass slaughtering Kings landing then kill one of westeros’s heroes- not to mention the former king of the north and if it became known- rightful heir to the throne.
While it might have been neat to set up some circumstance where the two could fight- like if JS and GW were shown in a scuffle after he killed the queen- and then before anyone could get a decisive victory or a kill the opposite side showed up and forced a stand off or stopped the killing blow etc.... settling the matter at the end with trial by combat is sorta against the themes of the ending and regressive. I mean- if trial by combat could be used for this stuff they wouldn’t need all the wars right? And part of the whole point is this cycle of wars based on old grudges and quests for power.
It would also go against the character development of GW and the unsullied. They were bred to fight. They lived brutal lives of fighting and dying. They were one of the greatest armies ever known in one of the greatest wars ever known. Their simple presence and allegiance to any power endangers peace. But through their journey and through Missandei GW found an actual dream and an actual way to peace. The unsullied going the Narth is their retirement and an end to their lives as living weapons in never ending combat.
Not only does the death of their wise and newly enlightened leader cast uncertainty on what would happen to them without the guidance of GW, and strong doubt they’d go to Narth- the concept would be a backslide and cast doubt on their future. They just fought this huge bloody battle after a huge bloody campaign. GW was going to retire after it was over to peace. So now, here the wars are all over, the person leading the push for continued conquest is dead- they have no enemies to fight- they are out clean and have a new chance. If they kill JS- that shows the wheel isn’t broken. That shows they can’t just live in peace but that even when they have the choice they’ll choose violence and revenge over peace.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the ending wasn’t the one I’d hoped for- but I don’t think it was bad. I think they rushed it. I think they told a good story in the last season but they didn’t tell it right. I think they needed much more set up and build up and exposition and character focus and they needed more thoughtful direction and cinematography to flesh it out all so that when it landed it landed right.
In writing it’s called “earning big moments,” among other names. The Rocky films are good examples of this. A very simple story about relatively mundane subjects with mundane and largely unremarkable characters by most respects- but the little details and pacing build up so that when these “big moments” happen they resonate and are accepted as plausible and real. The last season of GOT was easily at least 2 seasons of material in single short season. With another 8+ hours of run time to show us all the minute details and build emotional connections and place mental “anchors” to build major events organically it likely would have been much better received.
Instead, we are left having to use little clues and the like from previous bygone seasons, and make huge leaps in connecting things together by making assumptions about things instead of being shown what the connections are. We went from taking whole seasons just to see the face of the night king, to taking single episodes to dispatch him. We went from watching characters grapple with loss over many episodes or seasons to watching them have one or two lines to express their feelings over what was happening. It was by all accounts just an attempt to wrap up every loose end they could think of in a fixed timeframe instead of writing how to best wrap those stories up and scheduling the series ending to allow that to happen.
Except that as a Lord's bastard, Jon ALSO would have been trained from re same age but with better weapons. And better armor. And with specialized lessons in dueling due to its prevelance. And by people who cares if he survived. Ramsay Snow confirmed Jon's rep as a great swordsman. Sorry but the boring but honorable white dude wins.
I’m not saying he couldn’t win- or that he wasn’t a good swordsman. We’ve seen him battle and he’s lived this long. I’m just saying that in RPG terms- John is closest to a Ranger. He learned to hunt and track and live in the wild. He also likely received education in history, reading, writing, likely etiquette and manners. He also would have likely had some chores and free time. GW would have grown up with his entire life centered around learning to fight and war. He didn’t need to know manners of society or much of any reading or writing. He didn’t need history lessons or musical instruments or to be given freedom and time to himself. He was property, created for one single purpose- to fight. Warrior Vs. ranger isn’t a sure fight for either- but like a warrior class character GW specializes entirely in combat skills.
As a granted- the skills of a good duelist and the skills of a foot soldier are very different skill sets. Unit tactics and large battlefield strategies don’t have much bearing in a one on one fight. Soldiers on the field will generally face a large number of enemies and not just have the entire focus of a single person and be able to focus on a single person. So I’m not saying GW can walk all over John. It would be interesting to see. But John isn’t a born and bred killing machine. He’s good with a blade and been in some fights. He could win- GE could win. It’s anyone’s fight.
