The reason why when we hear about discoveries and then they disappear is because getting a drug to market takes 10-20 years its a rigorous testing process

not only that, cures tend to be great, but not very profitable for companies, same with more efficient products, I remember a new type of solar cells being developed that were twice as efficient with 12 months to market launch, bought out by a major solar manufacturer and shelved.
