Yeah there is a very real possibility that it was the US government, or rather the Department of State, who actually did this. This isnt a secret story and its commonly believed that the funds were put directly back into many precursors to our major federal agencies that exist to this day. Due to the sophistication of the actual brews/shine and the effectiveness of the distribution it would have been almost impossible for any organization at the time EXCEPT a coordinated, governmental operation.

Moonshine often comes out with a blue tint, it's caused by corrosion leaching the copper into the moonshine. It's not a secret trick, it doesn't make it better or more pure, it's basically an accident and anyone with the right equipment can make it happen

I may misinterpret the "copper 'scale' phenomenon", but doesn't that mean that the blue tint did not in fact come from copper ions but rather something else?

Moonshiners weren't exactly using quality equipment

That doesn't answer my question?

My statement wasn't an assumption, it's fact, a lot of copper-still moonshine comes out with a blue tint. Alcohol vapor corrodes the copper and fragments transfer into the batch.

Yes I understand that, but I wasn't questioning that part. Wasn't the post implying that the blue tint did not in fact come from copper distillation in this P. M. case? But rather from something else? That was my question. Not general moonshine distillation and copper equipment.

Oh ok I gotcha. Well I've looked for anything remotely corroborating this story and haven't found anything, maybe someone else has, but as far as I can tell the whole thing is made up. There is a brand called "Perry Martin" so someone may be making a story to go along with a real product. Unless someone provides some kind of link I'm going to assume this whole story is make-believe.

So there was a famous moonshiner named Perry Martin, from Arkansas. He had a reputation for making an excellent product. His moonshine was often referred to as PM. I don't think there's anything else in his story that matches this meme.
