I’m sorry to hear it. Out of all my close high school friends- for one reason or another- none of their parents paid for college. It doesn’t help you now- but perhaps it may help you in the future- or at least someone else reading your plight: it’s usually best to not assume anyone is paying for anything you want. For anything that represents such a large investment which can take years- it’s best not to wait until the bill is due to inquire about it. In the instance of college- the moment you realize you may want to go to college might be a good time to talk to your parents about it.

Applying for and trying to qualify for scholarships and grants and the like is something better done earlier than at the 11th hour- so even if they had been saving and there was an amount they were short there’d be time to somehow make up the difference. It is also never too early for you to start saving for your own college and expenses. If you end up not needing it- there are worse things than having thousands of dollars in the bank as you start out in life.

As for your parents thinking you weren’t smart enough for college- I’m sorry for that. Now is a good time to start showing them you are smart. You may never prove it to them and that’s ok. Making smart moves to live the life you want is about making yourself happy. Best of luck.

If you are going to college and you need to knock out generals, try to do them at a community college or tech/trade school, it's almost half the price and can usually be done online.
