My grandparents went to London. They said the food was horrible but the alcohol was amazing.

I think it very much depends where you eat, good food in the UK tends to be pricey. I'd expect to pay at least £40 per person for a halfway decent 3 course meal without drinks. Cheap food is very rarely good whereas other places (in my experience) seem to be able to do cheap and tasty in one.
