I mean, yeah. I’m gonna be modest? I don’t have anything to hide under these clothes, and in the house I generally don’t need to worry about weather, dirt, etc. like outside- so what’s the problem? Is it easier to defend yourself in thin polyester, or do most people sleep in denim and biker leathers? Cause otherwise the clothes you sleep in aren’t much protection; and I’m not going to be embarrassed. The person who gets sent to the hospital by a naked person who was half asleep likely will though. It’ll make a good prison story for em.

It's not necessarily about protection it's about being naked with an intruder in the house. Not everyone has the confidence you do

I can acknowledge that, and appreciate the perspective. There’s an odd play on the lines between confidence and just realizing something isn’t worth caring about. Sometimes one ebbs and flows into the other. On examination: the core of unease I can find at having an intruder see one naked is either a feeling of personal violation, or a feeling of a screwed power dynamic since they’ve seen you naked and you haven’t seen them naked.

Given they are an intruder, I couldn’t see caring about their opinion of my naked body: like it or hate it I’m not apt to take their input, and we aren’t likely to become regular and close acquaintances. The feeling of violation to me is negated by the fact I include it in the violation of my personal space by being in my home. The power dynamic will be restored when they are taken away in cuffs or on a stretcher.

But- thanks to your comment I could see that for many women it might be a more serious issue. Not only are women more at risk for additional attempts at further violation, but many women do not keep weapons and are not trained and practiced in self defense. A relic of traditional gender roles still perpetuates ideas that are counter productive to women at large thinking of themselves as capable or even trying to attempt the use of violence, and women are generally conditioned to be the users of violence in society.

So interestingly, while many men are objectively not prepared mentally or physically for adequate threat response- a large percentage of men believe they are or will at least claim to be, while often women who are otherwise in better condition to defend themselves will be frightened of such encounters and believe they are capable of self defense. I think there are larger social issues at play perhaps.

A friend of mine stated correctly that if a naked man comes running at you screaming, wielding a gun and fire poker, you're gonna think twice about your next step.
