I wonder if the writer was alive in the 70’s? There were plenty of “fat people” in the 70’s- and one photo from one beach doesn’t really say much. I mean come on- it’s a beach first of all. That’s like looking at Miami Beach in random single image in the future and saying there aren’t large people in 2019. Obesity has become more common world wide yes. But average life expectancy has also gone up about 5~ years since 1970. Would you conclude fatty foods and obesity increase lifespan and credit the food industry for that? I think not. Many other changes in lifestyle and society have occurred over the decades- including social attitudes that are more conducive to larger folks not feeling ashamed to go enjoy a day at the beach. So I think you assume too much from a single photo.
