Could someone please explain to life that my combat skills are limited, the whiplash might kill me, and if it pulls back much further the entire thing is liable to snap in half, making it a moot point anyway

This must be what weapons in RPGs feel like. "Dammit, why did I have to be an arrow? I could have been a staff, teamed up with a nice healer. Life would be good. Instead I'm about to be flung face first through someone's intestines just because the rogue is having a bad day."
