I remember when I was little and my Dad who loved to make us watch old TV shows and old movies he grew up with had us sit down and watch A Team. He explained why Mr. T was covered in chains why his name was Mr. T and why he was one of my Dad's favorite actors.
My Dad said Mr. T looked around his life and said I will not allow others to treat me like I am nothing. I will MAKE THEM treat me with respect. He forced the world to see him as some one to respect while looking and dressing how he wanted.
So an additional part of the story is that Mr. T used to be a bouncer and when people lost necklaces/chains he would wear them so that if they came back they would see them and be able to claim them back. I love that what started out as a practical idea to make his job easier morphed into something with such a profound meaning that he made it part of his entire life.
