It's almost halloween so this looks ok

It's often for the novelty, like how I personally enjoy equipping an Elytra even if I literally never use it because I can fly.

You can use an elytra in creative, and can glide upwards indefinitely. Makes you go faster than creative flying too.

You can use a sword in creative too, with the menu and no limit on levels you can make that a god sword and use the creative flight to ensure a crit too.

Point is, for what I'm used to seeing, there will often be an item someone has on them even if they don't technically need it due to the creative mode. A sword, a helmet, an Elytra, or enderpearls (which are actually incredibly useful for redstone contraptions).
