I haven't given up hope just yet, but at the same time I also feel like I should prepare for the situation in which it doesn't happen. Not to be a dick to my family, but I really don't want to end up like my brother (god bless him)

Not necessarily. You could have a great uncle, aunt, cousin etc that never had sex.
