Of course. School cannot be adapted to suit literally everyone while still having fair marking grounds.

Pretty sure its mandatory up to at least grade 10. At least here.

I remember in my school (private) we had religion class and we had all sciences class as possible and one didn't negate the other. So we learned about the bible without negating science. Such a wonderful time!
