That’s actually quite common and in many ways is desirable. Memorization isn’t intelligence. You can remember facts and figures and the like, but being able to solve problems is a totally different skill than being able to memorize answers to problems. The difference comes when you encounter a problem you have never faced before. The difference between a degree and watching a YouTube video. You may be able to use a tutorial to solve your exact problem- but if you faced a similar problem and didn’t have a tutorial you wouldn’t have the skills to solve it. Memorizing things that are frequently used and convenient is good- but it’s better to memorize things that are harder to puzzle out or look up than things that don’t need memorized.

I take 9-1=8 and 7+1=8, so it's now even 8+8=16
