I will say at least where I live, taxis are more regulated. Their cars have to have a special inspection and certification, and the drivers have to apply for a permit with the police department. Any psycho could be an Uber driver. They don't have the same screenings.

Actually yes they do screen uber drivers. They do monthly background checks, and if you don't keep an average of 3 stars or more, you usually get fired. Also, the Uber app itself has a few built-in safety features.
