Whoops, still illegal. Stand your ground laws are limited to if you believe the threat rises to the level of being an imminent and immediate threat of serious bodily harm and/or death. As they're injured, and seemingly asking you to call somebody, it would be difficult to plead good faith. Note that I am not well versed in American law, so this may be wrong, idk
That's not SYG, that's just self-defense. You shoot until the threat is eliminated. As evaluating your target after every shot has gotten people killed, you keep squeezing until they run away or can no longer pose a threat.
In general. This varies by state, county, sheriff, and DA. Safest bet? Don't let the guy who threatened your life contest the story.
seeing as this meme specifies texas, if someone intrudes into your home they could be threatening you with a butter knife and you wouldnt get charged with anything for mag dumping a pistol into them
Some states have it that if you fire a warning shot, and the person doesn't stop and continues on their path of harm towards you, you can kill them and have no charges pressed.
Then make the warning shot your last shot. Better yet, forget about warning shots entirely. Anything worth shooting is worth hitting, and anyone worth shooting once is worth shooting again.
Warning shots are such bullshit. Just call them what they are: Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. Shoot the ground? Congrats, your ricochet and fragments shredded your neighbor's femoral artery. Shoot up? That shell just landed on some little girl's head a mile away. A wall? Fuck that wall and fuck the grandparents behind it, too.
If you're shooting at something you don't want to kill, you're only needlessly endangering innocents. Legality alone is a pretty shitty ethic to live by.
I'm sorry, but again, I'm not going to jail for disobeying the law and getting murder charges against me for bot doing what needs to be done. In extreme situations, yeah, I would, but if I don't have to, I won't.
If a motherfucker deliberately fires "warning shots" I'll nail his ass to the wall on Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Attempted Manslaughter, Poaching, and whatever even vaguely can be justified.
And when he actually does kill some old lady, little kid, or random bystander, there will be Hell to pay.
Lethal force is either necessary, or it isn't.
