Also money and items weren't just thrown at you. You had to work for those

My good friend decided to try the newest game and quit. He said it was “too easy.” His partner replied “well yeah. It’s made for kids...” I have mixed feelings about that. I’ve played Pokémon since of came out and while some were harder than others- I don’t recall any being particularly difficult. For the more “serious” Pokémon fan the difficulty has more been in catching, breeding, training, configuring Pokémon and move sets and teams.

Managing EV’s and all the “hidden stats” and all the maximizing and incremental gains to create the perfect Pokémon specimens and battle them against other humans. The computer opponents have mostly served as filler or “beta” or tools to get money etc. that said- some Pokémon games certainly have had more depth, more options, more possibilities and nuance so that those just wanting a fun adventure or not taking the game so seriously could engage at the level they were comfortable and get 100% of the main game and most but not all of the additional stuff like ribbons or secrets etc.

Pokémon has been put long enough that someone born when it came out is an adult. It has plenty of adult fans and isn’t nor should it be just for kids. I also don’t think it should alienate new players or kids who don’t have 20 odd years of breeding stock and move sets and exclusive monsters ported through every generation since day one.

I guess it’s hard to find balance. Pokémon means a lot to a lot of people so i understand people being passionate about it. But I guess some generations are going to resonate with different people.

I made a challenge during Sword to use 0 items during battles + gyms, and to NEVER dynamax. The game is still pretty easy, but I still need to strategize and be cautious during a gym or risk losing (like how I lost to Bea about 5 times in a row lol, she gave me quite the welcome challenge)

PVP in pokemon can get insane, no doubt. The actually game is almost just like a tutorial with a story that allows you to build a base along the way. I mean, if one really tried, it's possible to beat any of the games with either the first normal, bug/poison or normal/flying pokemon you encounter... or just w/e starter. The first time I played the OG games I had no idea how to switch lead pokemon and I beat the game with a lvl 81 Blastoise, a lvl 40ish Kabutops, A lvl 27 Kadabra, a Machoke, the Lapras, and a lvl 40 Pigeot that I painfully trained up by constantly letting my OP Blastoise get KO'd.... Oh.. there was also a Bellsprout I'd bust out for Cut.
