It’s circular. What does a traditional “man” do? He makes his own way. If you are for whatever reason by force or choice bound to ideas of traditional masculinity- then sure. Man up and make your own path- be the change you think the world needs. Share your feelings, see a therapist, find the strength of self to not care about how you’ll be judged for doing the things you need to do to have the life you want to have. The iconic “manly men” have all partially defined what whole generations saw as what a man could be- and most have been somewhat counter cultural.
Leather Jackets and the greased hair styles of the 50’s were shunned by mainstream society. Guys like Arnold were seen as freaks and also shunned by the mainstream- we are taking about the kind of guys people crossed the street when they saw coming. They didn’t want Bruce Willis for Die Hard because he wasn’t seen as manly enough- and John Mclane helped create a new image of a “man’s man.” So- do you. If you want to be a “‘man” in the traditional sense- handle your business and take care of your emotions. Redefine the idea of manliness by being the man you want to be- the best version of the man you are.
They’re the people you should talk to without fear of getting hurt
