It took several amazing science teachers, 1 awful science teach, and two amazing all around teachers for me to choose to become the best science teacher I can. As a student teacher I can honestly say that most teachers didn’t want to be where they are. My class is 19 people and there’s maybe 3 of us who’s main goal is teaching. I looked back on my school experiences and I realized that the best teachers wanted to teach from the get go or they found a passion in it
As a student and as a teacher substitute I have met so many bad teachers. But I met even more amazing teachers.
Sadly there will always be those people who should NOT work with kids of any age.
Sadly my kid has to deal with one this year. We tried to get her away from her but she had to have math with her they don't have anyone else. It's a small Jr high. Teachers at the school teach more than 1 subject some teach 3. Again real small school.
This woman I can go on for hours about. But she should NOT be teaching.
My marketing teacher this year was a big disappointment, she was bad and delusional about it (we're normally 20 students, after the first classes we were down to 6 and she tried to use it as an argument to show we _people in a Cultural Heritage major_ were against marketing... We were looking at each other like "ok who's gonna tell her the problem doesn't come from the subject?"). I've encountered awful, unfair teachers (my french teacher in 8th grade used to systematically substract 3pts from my grades because I was gifted and so it was only fair to others, as otherwise it would have been too easy for me...tf, they were 4 y older than me, that should have been covering any difference between me and them.)
But yes I've had amazing teachers, 2nd grade teacher, most of my french teachers in middle/high school, math teacher in 8th-9th, latin in 11th-12th... To only name a few. People with passion for the subject and for transmission, and compassion towards their students.
