Town of Salem. It's an interesting little game. It's hard not to get rooms full of trolls, though.
.
There's several roles that are assigned randomly at the start of the game that are broken down into a few different factions. Iirc they're something like:
Town
Mafia
Neutral-neutral
Neutral-evil
Coven
.
The base version of the game is something like 12 players. 3 are mafia, 1 is a serial killer, and the rest are town (I think?).
.
The goal of any given faction is to survive to the end of the game.
.
The game has a day mode and a night more.
.
Night is when each role can perform role-specific actions. An investigator, for example, can select a player to investigate. At the end of the night the investigator will get a list of 3-4 possible roles the player they investigated might be. They can use that information later to catch players in a lie.
.
An "escort" can select a player to "distract" for the night, meaning that player won't be able to perform their given action
Roles like Mafioso and Serial Killer meanwhile can choose one player per night to attack and try to kill. The mafia can also talk to each other in a semi-private chat setting.
.
During the day mode, anyone who has died during the night will appear as a body on the game screen. The player themselves will be sent to a "graveyard," where they can chat with their fellow dead-men (and occasionally a medium). The role of the player will be displayed in the graveyard for all to see (unless there's a janitor but that's not base-game).
.
Players also have a "will" they can write in, that will be displayed to anyone in-game at the time of the player's death.
.
Day mode is when players get to discuss with everyone what info they have, what their suspicions are, or try to deceive other people. After the discussion players can vote to put someone on trial. If the person is voted guilty then they are hung.
.
At the end, whichever faction is left standing wins
As a side note - serial killers are not allied with the mafia. They have to kill every town and mafia member to win the game. Likewise, the mafia have to get serial killers eliminated to win.
Also Medium always dies Night 1, and the Jailor is probably going to kill you. If you're Jester, just do nothing and wait, you'll probably get random lynched
Ah yes. The medium's curse.
.
Lol the silent strategy never worked for me as a jester. For some reason it just made the mafia damn suspicious everytime and they'd kill me at night. Weren't any more agreeable when I was a survivor for that matter.
.
I had the misfortune of being jailor the very first time I played the game. Took me three game-days to figure out how to bloody well jail people. Everyone in the chat was like "who got jailed last night??" "Jailor, any leads??"
.
Was a bloody disaster
