In which case they are surrounded by other Olympic swimmers, probably stronger and faster than the lifeguards. (Just playing devil's advocate, not saying lifeguards are unnecessary).
Now, hear me out
They all collectively either over-exert themselves or pass out due to drug overdose. >_>
Now, as the lifesaver, you can only save one. This is your moral quandry
I don’t think they’re gonna restart the race just cause someone starts to sink. I mean correct me if I’m wrong, but in all the other sports when one participant falls/injured themselves they just get points deducted and no other participant steps in to help
@jokur_and_batmon There are plenty of "feel good" moments you can look up where participants stopped to help someone else. Also, I feel like there is a big different between falling on a track and having a scraped knee or even a broken bone and "sinking" which probably means drowning and possibly death. Also, not all swimmers are in the pools at the same time, so I would assume there would be other Olympic swimmers around that could help without the participants in the race stopping. Anyway, I understand why they have to have lifeguards, so I don't know why I writing so much about this.
