I mean I agree, I think it's stupid to try and push a gender onto an already made character to satisfy a need for "female role models". Instead, the film industry should be creating new characters and films, as rewatching a classic with only the protagonists sex being changed feels like a cheap way to grind these stories into ground.
At the very least, the universe of "James Bond" should be big enough to create a female character within it without taking the name "James Bond" or 007.
Barbara Broccoli went on record to say James Bond will never be played by a woman and there was never an intent to do so. It’s all a misunderstanding because in the latest film a female character takes on Bond’s designation of 007 temporarily.
