Sadly, it was NOT Alexandria Egypt- but Alexandria Virginia. Happily- it was still a library with many amazing books. Given enough time- a historian would cry at the loss of the junk mail you threw out, how much those priceless ancient works could have meant to their knowledge of the past. People pay $500 for phones and lamps we used to throw out when they were just cheap shit you could buy at the store. So many expensive works of art are just paintings an artist couldn’t sell and people thought were trash- like the Renaissance version of Jar Jar Binks action figures.

Take care of books. We can’t keep every little thing in life- you can’t have a future if you spend all your efforts holding on to the past- but knowledge is perhaps the worthiest thing to pass down to the next generations. At the same time- nothing lasts forever- they didn’t have airplanes or steam locomotives for centuries on after- so most of what was in those books- save for the history and language- we’ve figured out and then some.
