“We were children of gods and they made us slaves.
We dressed in gold, beautiful stones and rich plumage and they turned us into a poor and looted continent.
We were knowledge and they brought us to their God and along with their God the ignorance and detachment of mother earth.
This is how civilization came. "
European imperialists did kinda show up at the height of Mesoamerican imperialism. While it doesn’t make the shit the Europeans did any less heinous, the empire they conquered and enslaved was not innocent.
That's sounds an awful like you're justifying what they did by saying that the other side did bad stuff too. The Europeans came at just the right time on the down slope of the Mexica empire.
You're right, "right time" was the wrong phrase. All I meant was that the timing couldn't have been better for the Europeans.

The European colonizers committed the same amount of atrocities as any given civilization ever has. They just happened to be travelling with smallpox which killed 90% of the Natives that got it.
Cortez was a douche, but not a genocidal maniac.

Does the Mexica not being absolute saints make what the Spanish did some how less atrocious? Alternatively, there is the Black Myth that says that the Spanish conquest wasn't as bad as is traditionally portrayed.
