Spectators are also Lawful Neutral (as opposed to a normal Beholder's Lawful Evil) so they won't always kill you on sight. In fact they're pretty talkative.
Question: I want to make a dnd chatacter in the future of a monster/non human who has taken the form of a human and tries his best to pretend to be a human and fails miserably every time. I originally wanted it to he a beholder but my dm said that wouldnt work since beholders are super racist to humans soooooo... what else would work?

Idk who else would be resident evil and experts

Like a watered-down doppelganger. As for other monsters that could shapeshift there are succubi and incubui, rakshasas, green slaadi, and the aforementioned doppelganger just to the name a few, plus dragons. Each as their uniquely alien mindset (slaadi, for example, are the embodiment of Chaotic Stupid and are as likely to give you a high five as they are to gut you) that you could tailor-make to your liking.

Personally I've always to play a Mind Flayer that wasn't psychically-minded or magically-minded. Like make them a Barbarian that serves as the town executioner or a Rogue that makes people disappear or a Fighter that kicks ass with some like minded (heh) buddies.
Ooooo I like the sound of chaotic stupid. Maybe I'll message him about that later, if he has the time (which I assume he will bc of fuckin quarantine lol)
I'll admit I never considered what class he'd be yet, I just want him to be very socially awkward at every encounter lol.
It's like when my friend had a giant beefy orc as a thief and his schtick was that everyone saw him but he'd yell "YOU DONT SEE GRUG" if people spotted him, and they just chose to ignore him out of fear lol

You could also try a changeling.
