Honestly though, the hate and spite towards a kid... yes I think her message could be delivered more eloquently (on the one hand, the deniers need a wake-up call, on the other hand it doesn't seem to work as they all have doubled down) but I have seen posters with "fuck you Greta" and so on... C'mon people, are we not capable of civil disagreement even towards the statements of a teen?
Hard to be civil to someone representing a movement that's become a left wing sacred cow. It's being used to push socialism and to breakdown the economy and infrastructure of the entire developed world because polar bears will die out by 2015. Nevermind keeping developing countries from achieving high standards of living.
Look at the laws being pushed. It ain't about fighting climate change, it's about controlling people.
I don't give two shits about the world dying in a thousand years if the solutions will make me a starving peasant tomorrow.
But no, why apply pressure to India and China when you can instead outlaw gasoline and kill our food supply lines?
By Freya, they used the pandemic to try and force "Carbon Neutral" airlines. Who's the science denier here?
You would think being upset by the lack of eloquence in her message while supporting Trump is peak irony, but here you have someone explicitly denying science (a thousand years is NOT the deadline we're working with, arguing such is blatantly ignorant) while accusing others of being science deniers.
I'm sorry, when were the polar bears supposed to die? When was global warming meant to cook out humanity? When was global cooling meant to kick off another ice age? We ran out of oil before 84, right?
Are we working with 64 years? Even AOC said she was "joking".
Meanwhile, in my camp, we've noticed that carbon emissions don't correlate to, much less cause, rising temperatures.
But Loki forbid anyone point out that the data doesn't measure up to the popular theories.
You think they want to tax cow farts because earth is dying?
Ever notice how sometimes the weather man is wrong? Oh wow, he’s very often right or at least close, but sometimes wrong. The data and predictive models used to create the projections are pretty good. They save lives by forecasting storm conditions and temperatures. But sometimes they are wrong. Because you can’t actually predict exactly what is going to happen or when. And that’s a big part of the problem. Maybe the polar bears could die out as soon as 2015 (I don’t actually know what you’re talking about here but I know it’s one of your favorites), maybe they will last longer. We still trust the weather man, even though he’s wrong sometimes, but it benefits our day to day to know if it will rain or what the high/low is.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Reacting to climate change doesn’t have to mean we destroy industry and economy. But it does mean we have to make changes, based on projections (which aren’t always perfect). You might have a different perspective if you lived in an area with many foundries that switched from coke fired cupolas to electromagnetic induction furnaces. You might see/feel/smell the impact on air quality and wild life. Oh yeah, and from a profit and resource model, the induction furnaces get hotter, maintain a more stable temperature and once the cost of switching is amortized, cost less to operate while consuming less resource—oh yeah and is better for the environment, especially when the electricity used to power it comes from renewable resources (like hydroelectric power).
There’s a balance; it’s not all taxing cow farts and crippling industry.
There is a stark difference between sometimes being off the mark, and missing the broad side of a barn from the inside.
Yet I like sustainability and improvements to quality of life, but that ain't what alarmists are pushing.
