No point in saving the 0.05 percent of infected if that means making half of the country unemployed, destitute, and with shattered dreams.

Maybe so, but if something isn't done, that 0.05% could very quickly turn into 10%, 25%, 66% or even higher.

The new numbers suggest the opposite. We're seeing that the virus is tens of times more infectious than previously thought, but that even with improperly pumping up the death count the mortality rate is exceptionally low.
I'm a medic, and I suspect that the virus tore through my unit as far back as December, which tracks with Taiwan saying that human to human Covid-19 transmission has been an issue for months longer than the Chinese will admit.
I've been watching these developments pretty closely.
