The figure of “the grim reaper” has different names and particulars in different cultures and periods of history and mythologies. Largely- and especially in western culture- the grim reaper is a personification of death. As death- they are the physical embodiment of the end of life. Sometimes- portrayals vary from the reaper being the decider of death- to the reaper not actually being the one that decides the way or time of death- but who is responsible for carrying out the sentence and actually ending a persons life.
